Gibson 315536 Single Exhaust System:we are was founded in september 2001 and acquired by the new york times company in october 2010. Bought and installed Gibson 315536 cat-back exhaust on my 2007 Silverado 1500 Classic ext cab regular bed with 4.8L V8:I researched every exhaust that Amazon offers for my truck and Gibson was the only one that claims it increases low-end torque and horsepower at low RPMs. (Unlike cold air intakes that claim huge power gains but only at near redline RPMs). Ive had Blowmaster in the past and the drone inside the cab is unbearable, dont worry though they rust through and fall off within 2 years. I then had a Magnaflow, actually lost low-end power and it was barely louder than stock.Amazon had by far the best price online at 335. The HUGE Gibson box showed up 2 days after I ordered it.REMOVAL OF OLD EXHAUST: Raise truck and place on jack stands. Lower/Remove spare tire. Soak exhaust flange bolts with a good quality liquid wrench (let seep for 10 minutes or so). I used a Dewalt 20v Impact Driver and 15mm socket to remove the flange nuts (pneumatic impact will work great too). Using a breaker bar and hand ratchet will most likely snap the pressed-in flange bolts which then requires drilling them out and replacing. Spray the rubber exhaust hangers with lubricant, I used white lithium grease, this will greatly help remove stock exhaust hangers. You can either cut the exhaust in half for easy removal or take the time to work it out and around axle and crossmembers in one long piece.PREPPING NEW EXHAUST: Use coarse sand paper to lightly sand about 3 inches of the outside of the 'male' end of the pipes and the inside of the 'female' ends. Not only will this help slide the pieces together but with rotating and adjusting pipes for clearance once theyre all in place. You may also need to file off some burrs on the pipe edges.INSTALLING: Follow the instructions included. Start with the headpipe and hand thread the flange bolts to hold it in place. Lubricant in rubber hangers should help new hangers to slide right in. Use jackstand/wood blocks/old-rusted-out-muffler to set the new Gibson muffler on and slide onto head pipe (make sure muffler is installed in correct direction). Rotate muffler to instructions specs, mine said exit pipe at 11 oclock. Install over-axle pipe, make sure proper clearance of axle, brake lines, shock etc. Install exit pipe, step back from truck to make sure its level. Check clearance of spare tire, new hanger and pipe is really close to my spare, within half-inch. Tighten headpipe flange bolts, and work your way back installing and tightening clamps. Slip on chrome exhaust tip and tighten with half inch socket/wrench (exhaust tip needs to be installed, it helps block/dissipate heat which could cause damage to fender paint).TESTING: Detach and reattach battery to help reset computer. Start engine, stand next to truck and listen for any exhaust leaks. Take for test drive, listen for any banging, leaks, etc, and see how engine performs. May experience slight smell from new pipes getting hot for the first time.PERFORMANCE: I havent noticed any increase in power yet, Ill see how it reacts when I pull my traveltrailer. My shifting pattern/points have completely changed, it now up-shifts smoother and much sooner (at a lower rpm) than before, this may help with gas mileage, to early to tell. It also down-shifts much smoother than before. It sounds good too, a deep sound, not to loud but noticeable and only the slightest drone when slowly accelerating.So far I would recommend Gibson, seems high quality and well built in the USA. I hope this LONG review helps. Ill try to remember to do an update on power, gas mileage and quality in the future.REVIEW UPDATE: March 9, 2016Its been 3 years and nearly 60k miles since I installed this exhaust and its still going strong! It actually developed a deeper sound to it than when I first installed, it never got loud or obnoxious, just a little more throaty. I recently had a shop weld all the joints, I got tired of retightening the clamps every 4-5 months. Low-end torque seemed to increase, while climbing long grades the truck would stay in a higher gear with lower RPMs longer than when I had a stock exhaust or the previously installed magnaflow.
